Both Citrix and Horizon provide search functionality to help administrators quickly locate session data. While the interfaces differ slightly, the core features and workflow are similar. This guide explains how to use these options effectively.
By default, the search dialog is displayed when you visit the session view page for Horizon and Citrix. You can select to not display this using the checkbox provided.
Accessing Search
Click the search icon (magnifying glass) in the session toolbar to open the search dialog.
Date and Time Filters
You can filter sessions by:
Today: Shows only sessions from the current day.
Last X minutes/hours/days/weeks/months: Enter a number and select the time unit.
Date Range: Specify exact start and end dates/times.
All session data: Displays all available data (may take longer depending on database retention).
Additional Parameters
Along with time ranges, you can refine searches using fields such as:
Citrix: Session State, Group/Farm, User, Client Name, XA Server Name, App Name, Virtual Machine Name, Broker Name.
Horizon: Full Name, User Account, Farm, Machine/RDS Server/Virtual Desktop, State, Protocol.
Advanced Searching
Each field accepts one or more comma-delimited substrings (case-insensitive).
Example:
Farm Name: dev, finan matches any farm containing “dev” OR “finan” (e.g., Dev01, Finance1).
Multiple fields apply as Boolean AND:
Farm Name: dev AND Session State: active returns sessions matching both.
Actions
Apply: Runs the search and updates the view.
Cancel: Closes the dialog without changes.
Reset: Clears all fields and restores defaults.
Always display search options: Keeps the search panel visible for quick access each time you visit the page.
Results
After applying filters, the record count updates next to the search icon.
Search applies across tabs (App Servers, Published Apps & Desktops, Virtual Desktops), so counts update when switching views.
Tip: Use multiple filters (e.g., date range + user name) for precise results. Selecting all session data may increase load time.
